In some cases, you may find some or all of your Equipment has started to show an "offline" status on the Live Map, or that a vehicle you are following has stopped updating its location.
There are many reasons a vehicle may be offline, as outlined in this Knowledge Base article:
- What does it mean when a vehicle is “offline”?
- Reasons include:
- Loss of power
- Loss of cellular reception
- Location of your vehicle (in an obstructed or obscured area)
- Potential device issues
However, if there are no suspected issues with the device or the vehicle's location, the problem may be solved by simply refreshing the screen.
Overview:
In some cases, the PosiTrace Locate website may be unable to connect to our Live Update server to receive new data on your vehicle's location.
There are a lot of technology connections between your device and your computer. These include (but are not limited to):
- Browsers being used
- Your internet connection or your internet service provider's status (such as outages or interruptions)
- The computer you are using
- Relevant network hardware such as modems, routers, and switches
- Firewalls, VPNs, Anti-Virus, or other software that may control, redirect, or block network traffic or network communication ports
- Security protocols implemented by IT departments
- Etc.
When the application fails to connect to the Live Update service due to a connection interruption, it may display some or all devices as offline, or some units may stop updating their location.
In this case, refreshing the page will allow you to again see the actual, updated device status; however, if the connection issue persists after the refresh, the devices will continue to appear as offline.
Am I connected to the Live Update server?
At the top of your Live Map is a small icon. If you are connected to the Live Update server, it will show a green checkbox.
In the event you are disconnected from the service, you will see a Red X and also a notification above your Equipment List encouraging you to refresh the screen.
You can refresh using the link provided, or by using your browser's built-in refresh function (button or hotkey).
