PosiTracker |TL OBD
Installation process:
- Write down the IMEI number of your device for future reference.
- Write down any vehicle identification numbers for the asset you will be tracking, such as License Plate or VIN.
- Locate the OBDII port in your vehicle, which is a 16-pin port similar to the image on the right.
This port is often located underneath the steering wheel, near the driver’s knees, or near the hood release. Sometimes, a plastic cap or cover may cover the OBD port. General location of the OBDII connector is highlighted green in the following picture: - Plug OBDII side of the device into OBDII port
- Confirm that LED lights start flashing

Compatibility:
OBD tracking devices are baseline compatible with gas-powered passenger cars and trucks manufactured after 2008. Some cars and trucks outside of these parameters (such as older vehicles, or alternative fuel vehicles) may also work normally with the device, but it is on a case-by-case basis.
Fuel Sensor / Engine Codes:
Where compatible, your device communicates with your vehicle’s computer to obtain Fuel level as a percentage, as well as DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes), also called Engine Codes. Not all cars and trucks, even those manufactured after 2008, are guaranteed to be compatible with this feature, and compatibility is determined by the vehicle’s computer.
Ignition Detection and Virtual Ignition:
With an OBD-based device, Ignition On and Ignition Off is determined by several potential factors, such as Engine RPM, Acceleration and/or Vibration, Voltage Levels, or some combination of the above.
In newer cars with power-saving features, voltage and engine RPM values may fluctuate in ways that are not anticipated by the device, which may lead to small anomalies in trip tracking.
If you experience large gaps in your trip tracking, please contact our support team. We can work to customize settings, or implement a speed-based Virtual Ignition, to regain tracking consistency for your vehicle.
