Optional Harnesses:

For compatibility with a wider range of vehicles, optional harnesses for the G87 device can be purchased or provided. Please speak with your account manager for more information. These harnesses include:

  • OBD Y-Splitter (to hide device or retain use of OBD port)

  • JBUS 6-pin or 9-pin with dual-head splitter – common connector for Semi-Trucks. The 6-pin model appears more often in older trucks (eg: 2006 and earlier). Square mounting plate install.
  • JBUS 9-pin (with Y-style splitter) – common connector for Semi-Trucks, hex nut install.

  • RP1226 (with Y-style splitter). These ports are available in many semi trucks manufactured 2019 and later, though the port itself may not be in an immediately-visible location such as near fuse panels or under the plastic access covers.

If your vehicle has both a JBUS and an RP1226 port, please choose to use the RP1226 port, as it is better designed for telematics applications.

Compatibility and Virtual Ignition:

This tracking device communicates via CAN bus (Controller Area Network) with your vehicle’s onboard computer, when the vehicle is compatible, to obtain Ignition, Fuel Level, and Engine Code events.

In some cases, the device may not be able to fully communicate with your vehicle’s computer. Some Hybrid or Electric vehicles, as well as passenger vehicles manufactured prior to 2008, may use a different CAN bus protocol that is not compatible with the PosiTracker | G87s device. In these cases, your device may fail to register Ignition, Fuel level, or Engine Codes.

If the device does not register Ignition from the computer, which is necessary for correct trip tracking, PosiTrace can enable a Speed-based Virtual Ignition for you that will begin and end your trips based on the movement of the vehicle. Please contact our support department to make this adjustment.
